MDJ & Son'sTRUCK & TRAILER REPAIR

Semi Truck Repair in Port Arthur, TX

Our shop is on FM 365 in Port Arthur. Some repairs need the truck steady, a lift, and enough time to do them once — that is what a shop is for. The yard behind it is gated and covered by cameras, so leaving a truck or trailer with us overnight is a decision you can make without thinking twice about it.

What a shop can do that a service truck cannot

A service truck is fast and it is limited. In the shop we can pull a clutch, work a driveline and U-joints, repair or replace a fifth wheel, landing gear, or king pin, cut and weld, service cooling systems and truck A/C, do aftertreatment and SCR work, replace injectors and turbos, and run DOT inspections. These are jobs that need the truck steady, the tools all present, and enough time to do them once.

Diagnostics first, parts second

Mark Dugas Jr. has thirty-plus years as a mechanic, and not all of it on trucks — heavy equipment, diesel, race cars, air boats, and metal fabrication, including ten years rebuilding transmissions. That range is why the shop leans on diagnosis rather than replacement: he has met the same failure in half a dozen different machines. A derate with a dash light can be a sensor, a wiring chafe, a dosing fault, or a genuinely loaded filter, and those four repairs are not close to the same invoice. We find out which one it is before anybody buys a part.

We work to a clock

This shop is built to turn work around, not to hold trucks. Most of what we do has a defined end: a starter, an alternator, brake chambers, slack adjusters, lights and wiring, air leaks, filters, sensors, tires. You get a diagnosis, a number, and a truck back. Where we are careful is open-ended electrical. We will check the system, pull codes, and test circuits — but if the fault is buried in wiring that has been damaged, spliced, or modified by somebody else, that becomes a hunt rather than a repair. We will tell you that early and give you the choice, instead of running six hours on the clock and handing you a bill with no fix on it.

Where we stop

We do not take engine rebuilds, in-frame engine work, or transmission internals. Mark rebuilds engines for our own fleet, so the knowledge is in the building — but as a service to customers, that work goes to a builder. Transmissions we diagnose, pull, and put back. Saying that plainly is cheaper for you than finding out halfway through, and if your job lands on the other side of that line we will point you at somebody who does it for a living.

We can road-test what we fixed

Mark and Marcus both hold a Class A CDL, which means a truck that comes in with a driveability complaint can go back out on the road with one of us behind the wheel before it goes back to you. A shift problem, a brake pull, a noise that only shows at speed, a derate that only sets under load — those are not things you find in a bay. Plenty of shops have to hand the keys back and ask the driver whether it feels right. We do not.

Drop it and go

You do not have to sit in a waiting room. Drop the truck or trailer in the yard, leave a number, and Marcus will call you with what we found and what it takes before any work starts. For fleets running more than one unit, that yard is also overflow parking and staging — see the fleet services page for how we schedule multi-truck work without clogging both bays.

Questions we get

Do you work on trailers as well as tractors?

Yes — semi-trailers. Brakes, lights and wiring, air systems, suspension and air bags, landing gear, king pins, wheel seals, and welding and fabrication. Not RVs, travel trailers, or boat trailers.

Do you rebuild engines or transmissions?

Not as a service, no. Mark rebuilds engines for our own fleet, and that is part of why the shop is good at diagnosis — but customer engine rebuilds and transmission internals go to a builder. Everything around the engine — aftertreatment, injectors, turbos, cooling, electrical, air, brakes — is everyday work here.

Will you chase an electrical problem?

We will check it. Codes, live data, voltage, ground, continuity — that is normal work and most electrical faults are found quickly. What we will not do is run the clock indefinitely through wiring that has been damaged or modified by somebody else. If it turns into a hunt rather than a fix, you will hear that early and decide, rather than finding out from the invoice.

Can I leave my truck overnight?

Yes. The yard is gated with security cameras on site, and there is room to drop a truck or trailer without blocking anything. Call ahead so we know it is coming and who to reach.

What makes do you work on?

All the major ones. The scanner covers every major make, and Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, Volvo, and Mack all come through the shop.
